Location and Living Arrangements
The Economics Department is located in building E52, The Morris and Sophie Chang Building, at 50 Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA 02139.
E52 is situated at the east end of the MIT campus and overlooking the Charles River, contains the offices of the faculty, thesis writers, and visiting scholars. It is one of a complex of six buildings that also house the Sloan School of Management, the Department of Political Science, the Department of History, Program in Science, Technology and Society, class and seminar rooms, lounges, dining, and computer facilities. The Dewey Library (E53) occupies two floors in this complex and contains the social sciences collection at MIT, reading rooms and carrels.
E52 is located steps away from the Kendall Square subway station and public transportation is convenient from Boston and its suburbs. On-campus housing is available for single students, married students, students with a spousal equivalent, and students with children. All interested students must enter the housing lottery. Students who receive a campus housing assignment will be notified in May of their assignment. Students who do not receive a housing assignment in the first round will be placed on a waiting list.
