Our mission

We aim to build a supportive and empowering space for all genders* in economics. Our mission includes:

  • Promoting a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Supporting academic and professional growth through events and resources.
  • Creating opportunities for meaningful connections within the MIT and broader economics community.

*EGE was originally founded to advance gender equality with a focus on women in the economics profession. We have broadened our vision of the role of gender in the profession to include all genders, including those who do not identify with a binary gender classification. While most of EGE's members are women, and as a result, EGE's work to a large extent reflects the perspectives of women in economics, our activities are open to all. We actively aim to include the experiences and needs of non-binary individuals in our work. This footnote is adapted from the Women in Economics Initiative.
