Senior economics major Kate Ellison has been awarded the 2025 AMITA Academic Award from the Association of MIT Alumnae. She is the first MIT economics student to receive the prestigious honor.
Ellison is honored for her exceptional academic record as an economics major and French minor, as well as her promise as a researcher and teacher. She has served as a teaching assistant for several undergraduate courses, including the department's introductory macroeconomics course, intermediate microeconomic theory and public policy, and the first year discovery course Economics and Society's Greatest Problems.
Ellison has also amassed an impressive research record. She has worked as a research assistant with faculty at MIT and the London School of Economics, and with Smart Immune, a biotech startup in Paris, and shown exceptional promise as a solo researcher. Her original paper, "The effect of quotas on wages: The homegrown player rule in the premier league," was voted best paper in the 2024-2025 edition of the department's UEA Journal.
