Bio

Bill Wheaton is a professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Department of Economics, and was one of the founder’s as well as former Director of the M.I.T. Center for Real Estate.

Professor Wheaton has helped to develop the field of "urban economics", has written numerous articles in scholarly journals throughout the world and is the author of Urban Economics and Real Estate Markets, the first text to combine urban economic theory with real estate applications.

Dr. Wheaton has been active in applying economic research to the real estate industry and was the first economist to develop econometric based forecasting of commercial real estate markets. Together with Raymond Torto, he founded Torto Wheaton Research, which for almost 2 decades has provided the real estate industry with data and insight to assist the development and investor communities.

Professor Wheaton received a B.A. in Economics from Princeton University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Over the years he has assisted many governments as well as the private sector, consulting with the Federal Reserve Bank, H.U.D., the World Bank and the United Nations.
