Robert Solow, Nobel laureate and MIT Institute Professor emeritus who passed away in December 2023, was remembered at the American Economic Association's annual meetings in January. Jim Poterba, Mitsui Professor of Economics at MIT, presided over the session, which included a panel discussion featuring George Akerlof (Georgetown University), Chad Jones (Stanford University), Lawrence Katz (Harvard University), and Stacey Tevlin (Federal Reserve Board).
The panel covered Solow's research on macroeconomic policy, the theory of economic growth, and labor economics, as well as his work as a beloved thesis advisor to more than 70 PhD students at MIT Economics, four of whom- including Akerlof- went on to win the Nobel Prize themselves.
